Alexa Chung On Her Style Book And Who Would Model Her Fashion Line: EXCLUSIVE

By now you've probably heard that Alexa Chung won the Style Icon gong for the third year in a row at the British Fashion Awards 2012. Talk about a triumph! After the cat-eyed beauty accepted the award from Valentino during last night's ceremony, Grazia Daily was backstage to congratulate her. But the real question is, how does Alexa continue to be such a trend-setter?

'There was a time when I started thinking about it too much and it got weird but now I just dress to please myself,' she told us. 'The main point is I'm still excited by clothes and excited by fashion. It's innately something I'm drawn to so I literally can't walk down the street without dodging into places, which annoys my friends.'

Her ensemble was a real winner too. She looked as enviable as ever in a black Simone Rocha frock funked up by statement ankle boots by Nicholas Kirkwood. 'This time round, it was a bit of a nightmare,' she said of choosing her red carpet outfit. 'Ordinarily, I'm quite decisive. I look on Style.com and pick things and if they let me, then I borrow it. Other times, it turns into a bit of a disaster in terms of trying to match a shoe... But it's just clothes so it's fine. It's not the end of the world.'

With such a pitch-perfect wardrobe, does she have a favourite outfit? 'I really loved the Christopher Kane dress I wore to the British Fashion Awards last year because it was really sparkly, but kept getting caught in everything.' As for her off-duty style, Alexa cannot get enough of her denim hotpants. 'Everyone's sick of seeing them, but they're really comfy and I wear them constantly. When I travel, I pack them in my bag to take in the plane so they don't get lost.'

As well as a hoard of covetable outfits from La Chung, 2012 has brought rumours that she's set to release a style book. 'It's not reeeally a style book. See, I think maybe it should be a style book because everyone presumes that it is so I'm missing a trick.' So what's the deal? 'I can't really talk about it because...I don't want to talk about it! It's too much pressure. It's like handing in the world's homework and I'm like, "Oh God, I can't write!"'

Writing aside, Alexa certainly sounds keen on releasing her own fashion collection. 'If I had my own line, I would get Charlotte Rampling to model it. I think she's really cool.' How perfect.

But we couldn't possibly let the ultimate cool girl go without one tip for how to be a hipster. 'My tip is to not be one any more because I think it's a bit commercial to be a hipster now...so then just turn commercial! That's the ultimate hipster you can be.' Straight from the horse's mouth.
