Kate Phelan set to return to British Vogue

Topshop creative director Kate Phelan is poised for a return to her old employers, British Vogue magazine.

Specific details of her role and title are yet to be confirmed, but a spokesperson for Condé Nast has told The Telegraph that 'the role will not be full time'.

Topshop confirmed that Kate Phelan will remain in her position as creative director, and will continue to oversee all areas and projects that she currently works on for the brand in addition to her work with Vogue.

Topshop famously lured Phelan - one of the fashion world's most revered stylists - away from her position as co-fashion director of Vogue in June 2011 for a newly created role at the high street retailer in a coup which shocked the fashion world.

After 19 years at the publication, Phelan's decision to leave seemingly came out of the blue. Talking to The Telegraph's Tamsin Blanchard in September 2012 she explained: "I think I was surprised myself, and if this job hadn't come up I would still be very happy doing what I was doing. I felt I had to do it; I had achieved so many of my dreams but I wanted to know if I could survive without Vogue as it had carried me all my working life. I needed to take the risk".

"There are times I look back and regret it, and times I think this is thrilling to do something different."

In January 2013, Phelan hinted on that she was missing her old life in a Tweet to renowned hair stylist Sam McKnight.

'@sammcknight1 you too ! I really miss our lovely shoots , I was so jealous to see you in st barts with the dream team xxx'

Over two decades at Vogue, Phelan was responsible for some of the most inspiring and memorable fashion shoots the magazine has ever produced, working alongside photographers including Paolo Roversi, Nick Knight, Tim Walker and Corinne Day.

She joined the magazine while still at college, when a three-month placement turned into a full-time job assisting fashion editor, Sarajane Hoare. She stayed until she was offered the job of senior fashion editor at Marie Claire, before returning to Vogue in 1992.
