Miley Cyrus is V Magazine's latest cover star
We don’t know why we’re still surprised by the now standard transformation of teen stars: it's all too soon that the doe-eyes and cute girl-next-door frocks make way for a radical boyfriend choice to rile the rentals, a bit (or a lot) of drunken stumbling/car accidents/late night exhibitionism, extreme weight fluctuations, a surge of crop-tops and hot-pants and, to really cement their status as a proper grown-up, a shocking, smokin' hot fashion photo-shoot.

Miley gets her biker-chick on for V magazine
Britney, X-tina, Lindsay, Vanessa… the growing pains of the young and beautiful has become all too predictable. Super-smiley Miley Cyrus is the latest gurl-gone-bad to follow suit – ditching her squeaky clean Disney image for an altogether raunchier persona. Hannah Montana-worthy country and western ensembles and those perfectly curled long locks that papa Billy Ray Cyrus would’ve adored are long gone.

This shoot is pants! Not really. But the Y-Fronts makes for an unsual styling choice
Now it’s all barely-there skin-tight dresses worn bra-less to show off her honed Pilates bod, or angsty-metaller studded boots, ripped up micro-denim and nose-rings. Then there’s the fairly public on-off engagement with super-hunk Chris Hemsworth and often controversial movements on Twitter. Sounds like she’s got quite a few of the statutory breaking bad boxes ticked, then….

Miley gets cheeky...
But no 'Miley Moment' has been quite as surprising – not even the ‘twerk’ video – as her butt-cheek baring in this month’s V magazine cover shoot. Snapped by the legendary Mario Testino in a series of revealing outfits (most bizarrely, some Y-fronts), the actress/songstress leaves little to the imagination and fully lives up to the shoot’s title: The Emancipation of Miley.
Now that her new tunes are being produced by Pharrell Williams and she's followed in the footsteps of Gisele, Beyonce and Kristen Stewart to grace the cover of one of the fashion industry’s hippest magazine, could Miley break the car-crash mould to become a bona fide icon? We say watch this space…
