REPORT: Christopher Kane Has Accepted The Job As Balenciaga's New Designer

Christopher Kane is due to take the reigns at Balenciaga, according to two French publications. The London-based designer has reportedly taken Nicolas Ghesquière's place at the helm of the French fashion house.

It was little over a week ago that Grazia Daily brought you news of Nicolas Ghesquière's shock departure from the brand he'd help revive during a 15-year tenure. It was only a matter of time (ahem, seconds) until everybody threw their tuppence in.

New York-based talents Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang were favourites to replace the directional designer as well as Mary Katrantzou and J.W. Anderson - but our bets were always on Christopher Kane. Either way, we weren't expecting an answer any time soon - let's not forget Dior made the world wait an entire year before revealing its new designer.

Cut to today and the fashion world is a-buzz with news that Kane will join the house as early as December 1, one day after Ghesquière leaves. Both Grazia France and French newspaper Le Nouvel Observateur are reporting that he has accepted the role as creative director, although the news has not been officially confirmed by either Kane or Balenciaga.

At Grazia HQ, we couldn't be more excited if he has bagged the top job. The 30-year-old Scot is London Fashion Week's hottest star and he's honed his talents since working with Donatella Versace to re-launch Versus in 2009.

Meanwhile, POP magazine took to Twitter to say: 'Christopher Kane for Balenciaga= Match made in heaven.' The Wall Street Journal’s Christina Binkley tweeted, 'Toughest thing in fashion is hitting the line between forward and wearable. Christopher Kane has been doing that. Balenciaga? Sounds smart.'
