Andrea Riseborough demonstrates the waistline-neckline at the British Independent Film Awards

Andrea Riseborough, the acclaimed British actress chosen by Madonna to play Wallis Simpson in her directorial debut W. E, is on her way to becoming a household name for all the right reasons.

Glowing reviews for her performances in movies including Brighton Rock and Never Let Me Go , and a TV Bafta nomination for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Long Walk to Finchley , have been bolstered by her impeccable turns on the red carpet which have earned her a place on many a best dressed list this past year.

But taking the stage at last night's Moët British Independent Film Awards to collect her Best Actress prize for her role in IRA thriller, Shadow Dancer , Riseborough made her first sartorial 'boob' (sorry).

Braving plunging temperatures in central London, Riseborough sported a neckline to match. Well, I say neckline. There comes a point when a neckline technically becomes a waistline. At what point is that? Well, just take a look at the picture above.

While I'm not suggesting for a moment that Andrea's milky white décolletage is anything other than perfect - note to any admirers of this look: if your chest isn't smooth as a baby's bottom and your breasts don't pass the pencil test, this is a no-fly zone - no matter how immaculate one's assets, there's a time and a place for baring this much flesh. Seducing a lover by a roaring fire? Yes. Making an acceptance speech to a room full of giggling strangers on the edge of their seats and unable to concentrate on a single word you're saying in case anything should 'work loose' from its precarious casing? Erm, not so much.

It seems that poor Andrea had already realised her misdemeanor when she took to the stage, joking awkwardly about her 'assets' before clutching her award to her chest in a failed attempt to cover the expanse of flesh.

"At six o'clock, it seemed like a good idea…" she told the audience. Andrea, we love you, everyone's entitled to an off day, but between us girls, any outfit that requires an entire roll of tit tape to render it wearable, is never a good idea.
