Andrej Pejic lands his first Elle cover

We've been keenly charting the meteoric rise of the fashion world's pre-eminent gender-bending model, Andrej Pejic, since he started sneaking womenswear jobs out from under the noses of countless boring old female models.

And as we usher in a new year, Pejic has notched up yet another broken boundary for his CV by becoming the first cross-dressing male model to grace an Elle magazine cover.

Wearing top-to-toe Jean Paul Gaultier - for whom Pejic has variously performed muse, couture bride and campaign star duties over the past few years - the Elle in question is that of his birth nation, Serbia (Pejic fled to Australia as a political refugee when he was eight following the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia). By all accounts, Gaultier even personally sent the clothes to the shoot after hearing about the groundbreaking January cover. And doesn't he/she look marvelous?

Inside the issue, Pejic demonstrates his versatility thanks to some clever camera-work, posing in saucy lingerie wrestling with a Thin White Duke-alike male model. Yes, you guessed it - that's Pejic too.
