Daisy Knights Dishes On Her First Handbag Collection: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Her jewellery been spotted on the likes of Rihanna and, just three years into her career, Daisy Knights has already been snapped up by Harvey Nichols and Urban Outfitters to design exclusive collections. But it hasn't been easy. As Daisy explains in this week's Grazia's Two Friends column this week, she almost lost the will to carry on designing after her father - her teacher and main source of inspiration - sadly passed away suddenly after finding out he had liver cancer. Here, she speaks to Grazia about her jewellery, her father - and her eagerly anticipated handbag collection...Daisy Knights Launches Her Jewellery Collection For Harvey Nichols

Grazia Daily: When did you first realise you wanted to be a jewellery designer?

Daisy Knights: At a very young age: I made my first ring when I was eleven in my father's little workshop in the garden - and absolutely loved it.

Grazia Daily: Who was your inspiration growing up?

Daisy Knights: My father, who sadly died last November. He was a doctor but made jewellery as a hobby. He was really good - even making my mother's wedding and engagement ring. He really nurtured my talent and encouraged me to apply for Central Saint Martins where I studied jewellery design. Before I had my own workshop he even helped me make my jewellery for shops.

Grazia Daily: Where do you look for inspiration now?

Daisy Knights: I love the British museum, I always take a sketch book there. It's a great starting point for inspiration.

Grazia Daily: We heard Rihanna is a big fan. How did that come about?

Daisy Knights: I heard a rumour she liked my stuff so I sent her some pieces for a shoot. Next thing, she was pictured wearing it!

Grazia Daily: What’s been your proudest moment so far?

Daisy Knights: Designing an exclusive collection for Harvey Nichols is definitely up there!

Grazia Daily:… And your biggest hurdle?

Daisy Knights: My biggest hurdle was starting out on my own straight from university 3 years ago. When you're that young it takes a lot for people to take you seriously. It's tough. Getting back into designing after Dad died last year was also one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. He built my work bench for me - so for weeks after his death, I couldn't go near it. It was just too painful.

Grazia Daily: We love that you name your pieces after family and friends. Do you have them in mind when you’re designing them?

Daisy Knights: Yes, the anchors are named for my father. He was really into sailing so the motif sits really well.

Grazia Daily: Does your jewellery reflect your own personality?

Daisy Knights: Yes, definitely. Everything I design I would (and do) wear myself. I would never let anything out on the shop floor that I don't love and want to wear too.

Grazia Daily: Would you say that you had a signature personal style?

Daisy Knights: Yes, I like to be comfortable but chic, I'm mostly wearing a skinny jean and Van trainers. I wear so much jewellery that I like to keep my clothes simple.

Grazia Daily: How would you describe it?

Daisy Knights: Feminine rock 'n' roll.

Grazia Daily: What’s your favourite piece of this collection?

Daisy Knights: I really love the necklace with 3 stars on. It's so easy to wear and would make such a great gift as it's simple, but unique.

Grazia Daily: What’s next for you?

Daisy Knights: I'm really excited to say that I'm currently working on my first handbag collection which will launch in February.

Grazia Daily: We can't wait to see it!
