Marc By Marc Jacobs New S/S 2013 Campaign Unveiled Featuring A Model on the Loo

Ever the fashion maverick, Marc Jacobs has once again showcased his signature grungy view of style with his new campaign for Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2013 collection. Shot by long-time collaborator, Juergen Teller, the images which we spotted on Fashionista.com feature a male model reading in a graffiti covered public loo and a female model posing against a backdrop of yet more graffiti.

The shots are in stark contrast to Jacobs’ new ad campaign for Louis Vuitton shot by Steven Meisel which includes several of the uber-chic twins from his sixties inspired catwalk collection. If you compare the two you basically get the glossy vs. grunge fashion debate in pictures.

The MBMJ shots are however, very much in keeping with the gritty aesthetic that Teller and Jacobs have pioneered over the past decade. Famous for his anti-retouching stance and quirky humour, Juergen Teller has lensed a collection of women who shun conformity including Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter and young Elle Fanning, for both MBMJ and Marc Jacobs mainline campaigns.

Often set in hotel rooms or anonymous looking, realistic locations, the campaigns speak volumes about the Teller/Jacobs 'anti-fashion' attitude - a vibe that's been gaining plenty of currency this season with insider favourites like Dries Van Noten and Phillip Lim working a grungy look on the SS2013 runways. The fact that Jacobs can switch so seamlessly to create such sophisticated and glossy images for Vuitton is further proof if you ever needed it of his impressive abilities.
