Net-A-Porter to launch print magazine

Speaking at a conference last week, CEO Mark Sebba revealed the news, saying: "It isn't a secret that Net-a-Porter will be publishing a major fashion magazine within the next 12 months or so", noting that the company still sees print as important.

The site already has a weekly digital magazine which is viewable online and through their iPad app. Last year it ventured into print for the first time when a limited number of copies of its spring/summer 2011 magazine, featuring Alexa Chung on the cover, was sent out to corporate clients.

The move isn't entirely surprising considering that the site's founder, Natalie Massanet, worked at publications Women's Wear Daily and Tatler before setting it up. Additionally, the site now has the editorial know-how of Lucy Yeomans , former editor-in-chief of British Harper's Bazaar , and also Tess Macleod Smith, the former group publishing director of Hearst, who joined the company in January.

"Twelve years ago when Natalie [Massanet] launched Net-a-Porter, it wasn't so much about revolutionising shopping as revolutionising the magazine industry," Sebba said, according to Wired UK . "It's about understanding the media side of commerce rather than just trying to move products. I don't want to denigrate [the retail] side in any way as it pays the rent, but advertising revenue increasingly pays the rent as well."

Although Sebba reportedly let that cat out of the bag too soon, industry sources have confirmed to WWD that a magazine is indeed in the works, although months away from any official plans being actioned.
