Animal testing to be banned in Europe

From March 11 2013, animal testing for cosmetics, including ingredients in Europe will be banned.

Kick-started by Cruelty Free International and spearheaded by The Body Shop - and its late founder Anita Roddick back in the Nineties - this marks the successful end of a 20-year-long campaign,

"This is truly an historic event and the culmination of over 20 years of campaigning. Now we will apply our determination and vision on a global stage to ensure that the rest of the world follows this lead," said Michelle Thew, Cruelty Free International's chief executive.

The ban affects anyone who wants to sell new cosmetic products in the EU, and includes all toiletries, from soap to toothpaste and all beauty products.

As Paul McGreevy, international values director at The Body Shop added "this great achievement in Europe is only the closure of one chapter. The future of beauty must be cruelty free."
