"I love Michelle Obama and I love her bangs!" declared Barack Obama last week. The US President was speaking ahead of a rather more pressing event - his second inauguration ceremony - but the First Lady's new fringe (referred to as 'bangs' across the pond) had grabbed so many headlines that he felt he just had to weigh in.

However another vocal leader - this time in the fashion world - doesn't think so much of FLOTUS's new hair.
HuffPost unearthed how Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld told French TV show Le Petit Journal : "I don't understand the change of hair. I adore Madame Obama, I love her. But there is a news reader at LCI which has this haircut."
Ouch! We're not M'Obama would like to be compared to a French news anchor, but Karl confirmed his lack of enthusiasm by adding: "Frankly, this doesn't suit her. The fringe was a bad idea, it's not good."

Lagerfeld is famed for his signature style of candid talk ( here at the Telegraph we've chronicled all of Karl's most outrageous insults ) and also used the interview to set a few other things straight: Valérie Trierweiler, partner of French President François Hollande, wasn't at the Chanel couture show because she "wasn't invited" (she sat front row at Dior).
Karl also revealed that he thinks his adorable pet cat Choupette is more famous than him, and that his fingers have a strange habit of shrinking throughout the day - causing him to lose his rings. "It's a non-explainable phenomenon" he (tried) to explain, "If I make a zealous gesture to someone then they receive a ring right in their face."
