Social Studies with SELFs Stephanie Miller: Closed Set with Julie Bensman

Last time Stephanie Miller and I caught up over drinks, she was leaving for Vegas the next day to run a half marathon. Then the last time we tried (and I flaked) to get drinks, she was coming from a yoga session with Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Thomas. To hang with this chick, you need major motivation (and a whole lot of espresso). But for the lazier, scheduling-impaired set, one need only log onto Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram to stay up-to-date on Steph’s exciting life.

Miller is SELF Magazine’s Social Media Editor, and the first within Conde Nast. The entrepreneurial role has allowed her to mold, manage and grow all nine of SELF.com’s online channels. In between her action-packed day job, insane social schedule and making mortal plebe’s reevaluate their New Year’s resolutions, I managed to catch up with Steph to find out what keeps her going…and going…and going.

Julie Bensman: Your job, in a nutshell. Go.

Stephanie Miller: I’m a social media ninja with a kick-ass print and web team. It’s so exciting to work with editors at the top of their game. What I love about SELF is that it’s as cool and chic, or casual and down-to-earth as you want it to be. One day, I’ll be wearing a Vince leather dress; the other, I’ll be out the door for an early workout and sporting rad running gear.

JB: What are some of your favorite products to look cute while on the go?

SM: I’ve accumulated quite the fitness collection. I did my first New York Triathlon in Nike Free Runs, ran the Rock ‘n’ Rock Vegas Half Marathon in Asics GT-1,000’s, bought my first Specialized Sirrus bike (I have skulls as air caps), made Lululemon herringbone leggings a wardrobe staple and the Under Armor StudioLux Jacket is my all-time favorite piece of athletic clothing. I’m also fond of the entire Brooks Running line of night gear (hello, neon).

JB: When you get dressed, what three things must you ALWAYS have on?

SM: I’m obsessed with my @StephaniePaige Twitter Handle necklace from Shame On Jane (it’s the new Carrie). I always have my Retrosuperfuture shades in my bag, and carry my neon Ryka Desire or Nike Free Runs (super lightweight) for an impromptu run.

JB: How would you describe your personal sense of style?

SM: Comfortable, colorful and classically unique (does that even make sense?).

JB: Last great purchase?

SM: A Christmas present to myself: 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel in Metallic Gold. It pains me to share this link to Barneys because the bag is now on sale, but would like to maintain my fashion karma and share the wealth.
