Oscars 2013: Tanning Beauty Secrets Of The Stars By The Experts At St Tropez

Rosamund Pike

Oscar night isn’t only the busiest night of the year for hairdressers, celebrity stylists and the red-carpet fitters. Oh no. Take into account those acres of bare celebrity arms, legs and décolletage that’ll be on show with their couture gowns and you’ll realize that the wonderful people with the St Tropex tan spraying equipment have their work cut out for them. Here, the St Tropez experts talk Grazia through four celebrities, each with a very different look - and how they prepare for their all-important appearance on the red carpet.

The inspiration for Brit actress, Rosamund Pike's look at the Oscars was 'Modern Day Grace Kelly'. Her St Tropez tan expert Melanie Inglessis, revealed; 'I applied the St Tropez Gradual Tan PLUS Firming 4 in 1 Lotion, to give the body a sheer and very natural color. I then completed her look with the St Tropez Skin Gold Illuminator on Rosamund‘s arms to give them a luminous finish.'

Her top tip? 'I suggest mixing the illuminator with your foundation at home to give a beautiful glow on your face.'

Kelly Osbourne at the OScars 2013

Punky princess Kelly Osbourne, complemented her lilac 'do and sleek white dress with  a skin look that was aiming to be a 'British babe'. Her skin finsher, Fiona Locke, of St Tropez said; 'Kelly has a very milky, flawless complexion so for the Oscars we wanted to achieve a golden tone that would complement the colour of her dress' She used St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Spray, to achieve this suble effect.

Salma Hayek at the Oscars 2013

Salma Hayek, with her smouldering Latina look was a candidate for a slightly deeper tan, by Jo Strettell. The look they were going for was dubbed; 'Modern Regal Glamour'.  Jo explained; 'I used the Applicator Mitt to buff Salma's body with the St Tropez Gradual Tan Plus Firming Body Lotion, to enhance to a radiant glow on the day. To achieve a very glowy, bronzed skin tone I applied the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse, with an applicator mitt the day before, to get a great base tan and even flawless color.'

Emmy Rossum

Celebrity Makeup Artist, Jo Baker completed actress Emmy Rossum's look to match her ethereal outfit for the ceremony. 'Emmy’s gown was stunning. Layers of silver beading and sheer panels were already a statement, so when she told me she was adding a diamond headpiece which was worth $2.5million [yikes!] I knew I wanted to play up her skin as the key feature. '

Jo exclusively revealed to Grazia Daily that; 'Emmy has really gorgeous very fair skin, almost alabaster skin. All we wanted to do was slightly warm her complexion up and give her a healthy glow.  I prepped Emmy’s skin the day before using St Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Body Lotion in light/medium. This subtle developing body lotion adds a soft golden warmth daily and builds to a natural and sun-kissed tone - and it's not as full-on as a fake tan, as its really a body lotion with a gradual tan built in.'

We asked Jo what it was like to get to be out in LA and work with all the Hollywood A-listers providing tans and makeup. She told us; 'When I'm working backstage, or pre-ceremony on a big event like this, the atmosphere beforehand is really great. We have so much fun, we listen to music and chill out and gossip about who's going to be there and who's going to win what. It's a great fun day'.
