It was a big day for Jessica Ennis today as she went off to Buckingham Palace to receive an OBE from the Queen. So what does one wear to such a fancy event? She opted for a strechy knit Antonio Berardi dress with a flared skirt with a fascinator and nude heels. How very Kate Middleton of you Jess. She also represented the Brits with a black Mulberry bag in her paws.
So she wore Antonio Berardi, but what did she say to the Queen? Jess said about her moment with the Queeny: 'You know when you're so nervous and you forget? She just said the summer was amazing, 'How's training going?', so it was very, very nice.'
Jessica is the nation's golden girl and could be the most inspirational young Brit, well, ever. The 27-year-old won gold at London in one of the most spectacular sporting nights in British history, is the British national record holder for the heptathlon, the former European and world heptathlon champion and is the poster child of British athletics. Oh and she has the most impressive six pack we have ever seen.
But she also wins in the fashion stakes, as she regularly steps out in luxe designers including Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham. Grazia Daily caught up with the Team GB champion on the front row of Mulberry's Spring/ Summer 2013 catwalk presentation where she gushed about the designer of her dress - Victoria Beckham. 'I’m wearing another Victoria Beckham dress today! I love her collection and her collection was great at New York Fashion Week. She’s got some amazing pieces so it’s great to be able to wear some of her dresses.'
As you can see by her arm candy at the palace today, she is a big fan of Mulberry and their Spring 2013 show was her first Fashion Week experience. At the show she told us she's always been a big fan of Mulberry and when we suggested they make a 'Jessica Ennis' bag she said: 'Oh I don’t know, it would be amazing though! I mean all of the styles of the bags are great, there’s just so much variety, colour… So I’d definitely go for something with a bit of colour but I love the structure. It’d be fun to do though.'
UPDATE: Grazia Daily spoke to Mr Berardi today about how it feels to see the gold medalist wearing his designs - to meet the Queen, no less! 'It is thrilling to be worn by a hero and a champion,' the designer exclusively told us. 'Jessica is an astonishing woman, and I am very proud of her.' Hear, hear!
