Donatella Versace, me, and a fake tan dilemma

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked if I'd host a Q&A session with Donatella Versace at this weekend's Vogue Festival at the Southbank. Sounded harmless enough. After I agreed, they told me I'd be standing in for Rupert Everett, who has to attend the Oliviers. Everett - he of the princely pecs, abundant wit, and close friendship with Donatella. No pressure then.

Among the five million subsequent conversations about what constitutes suitable questions for DV* (she's much more charming than people think, but nervous doing anything live), by far the most alarming was the one with a Voguette wondering whether I'd like hair and make-up for the event. Several hours worth -please. That part was fine.

Then she asked whether I'd booked in for my fake tan yet. Um, funnily enough I've been otherwise occupied thinking up questions. "You'd better get a move on; every spray tanner in London is getting chocka," she advised.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I looked at a glossy magazine - about three hours ago -the manifesto was along the lines of fake tans are toxic and pale is interesting. Fashion journalists - you just can't trust them.

If you have any suitable questions for Donatella Versace, tweet me. I'm off to find a non-chemical fake tan.
