You might remember that back in October Lady Gaga went all Versace on us, leaning over the Palazzo balcony in Milan with her fashion BFF (we mean Donatella, of course) in gowns from Gianni Versace's Bondage collection. She had the Donatella hair, the black out sunnies, the bodycon dress and the red lippie, but she decided to take her Versace tribute one step further by wearing THAT Elizabeth Hurley safety pin dress.
The black gown, which was worn by Liz Hurley back in 1994, is one of the most iconic dresses, well, ever (it even has its very own Wiki page). At the time the dress caused a bit of a kerfuffle, because the fabric was only fastened together with stategically placed safety pins which showed off rather a lot of Lady Hurley. So when Gaga decided to wear this piece of fashion history we had one question - why? Oh and how? We wondered if Gaga whipped off the red gown she had worn earlier that day, stomped her foot and demand she had to wear THE most famous Versace dress ever made? Well we've now got the answers from the Italiano designer.

Donatella has opened up about her friendship with Lady Gaga in an article she wrote for the March issue of Italian fashion magazine Amica and reveals that she first met Gaga when she wore vintage Versace for her Edge of Glory video.
The platinum haired fashionista writes in her piece: 'She was determined, she already knew what she wanted: to go straight to the heart of the maison and show those clothes to a new generation, to all her fashion-lover fans. I’m sure that, if Gianni were still alive, he would have been a huge fan of hers.' Ah so that's what she's doing by wearing the safety pin dress - keeping the history of the house alive. We get it, we get it - Gaga is teaching her monsters about fashion history.
Donatella also gushes about Gagaloo in the piece writing that 'I’m very proud to say that Lady Gaga is a friend of mine,' and 'I'm very happy she is part of the Versace family.' Now that's a family we'd like to be part of - at least for just one day.
