Guest Blog: Coco's Tea Party Gets Inspired By Jennifer Lawrence's Dark Blonde 'Do

Fashion journalist and stylist Ella Gregory is a blogging pro, having started Coco's Tea Party in 2006. It covers everything from the latest magazine editorials and designer campaigns to celebrity style and catwalk trends and remains a firm favourite on our Google Reader. Here, in an exclusive guest blog for Grazia Daily, Ella brings us her diary direct from the hairdressers...

I’ve been dyeing my naturally brunette hair a light, golden blonde for over three years, and finally decided it was time for a change. Inspired by Jennifer Lawrence’s new dark blonde shade and Sarah Jessica Parker’s subtly-highlighted hair, I headed to the Errol Douglas salon in Knightsbridge, London.

Head-of-colour at Errol Douglas, Jessica Speechly, warns the transformation will look quite dramatic before the first few shampoos. So as I step into the salon I know I’ll be leaving with a much darker ‘do.

“People definitely aren’t going as bleach blonde for the summer any more,” Jessica tells me, as I take a seat in the salon. “It’s more of a natural blonde now,” she says, citing Jennifer Lawerence and Jessica Alba as perfect examples of celebrities who wear the colour well. “They always keep it in the nice, playful dark blondes.”

To create a darker look that isn’t too harsh, Jessica frames my face with soft highlights and applies a toner in-between foils to give the illusion of thicker hair. Whilst she finishes applying the colour I’m fully pampered, with an Essie manicure.

After the colour is rinsed out I get a cut and blow dry with the man himself, Errol Douglas MBE. Errol gets rid of all my split ends and adds volume and movement to my hair using a medium-sized barrel brush. I’m amazed at how bouncy and thick my hair looks!

The finished result is dark and dramatic, as Jessica predicted. I’ll certainly miss the baby blonde highlights, but it’s nice to go back to a more natural colour. Now I can’t wait to shop for a new look to accompany my dark blonde hair.
