8 Resort 2014 Trends You Need To Know From The New Tracksuit To Scarf Dresses

Despite being a few years old, it’s still relatively tricksy to get one’s head around the idea of Resort collections. First of all there’s the naming: is it Cruise or Resort? Bring it up with the fashion gods, people, there’s no definitive decision. But what we do know is that these lines are the lovely new clothes and accessories that drop into stores from November. We’re barely into bikinis and yet Pre-Fall (that other in-between season) is starting to hit rails in preparation for the forthcoming A/W’13 ranges. So when the Resort/Cruise presentations come along as the same time, it can fluff up even the most ferociously ahead-of-the-curve wardrobes. Head exploding? Calm down and look at the bright side – checking out this newness means even MORE super-trends for us to lust after or try to tap into now. We’re not complaining, but our wallets may be.

(May 29, 2014 – London) Roland Mouret showcases the Resort 2015 collection in London on May 29 2014, at his flagship home at 8 Carlos Place.

More than ever Resort (and Pre-Fall) collections are generating big bucks - buyers can spend up to 80 per cent of their entire budgets for the year on them, and the pieces stay in stores long before hitting the sales racks. It’s no great surprise that uber-houses like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior are ploughing effort and money into making a splash, staging high profile shows and offering more looks than ever before.

So with all that in mind, let’s get down to the trends. Only a handful of brands have revealed their Resort lines thus far, but we’re a few headline looks are already appearing. There’s an emphasis on A-line – whether micro mini, flaring out around the ankles or into the skinny-boot trouser silhouette Nicolas Ghesquiere aced at Balenciaga and has now rebooted for Louis Vuitton. You’ll find a lot of ultra-luxe leatherwork, a new take on trackies and much more. Just scroll through the gallery above and start saving some pennies…
