Kim Kardashian And Givenchy Go Way Back; We Take A Trip Down Their Memory Lane

The bets were on, the world a-buzz with speculation about what the bride would wear at the wedding of the year. Kim Kardashian aka Mrs Kanye West has, in recent months, become one of the world’s pre-eminent fashion icons, with a number of powerful friends in industry, so it was with bated breath we awaited news of what the bride wore at her extravagant nuptials yesterday.

After months (yes, months) of speculation about what and who Kim Kardashian would wear down the aisle, it's finally been made official. The bride wore Givenchy Couture by Riccardo Tisci. Kim Kardashian tied the knot to Mr Kanye West yesterday in Florence in the full Givenchy works - a white Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown, veil and accessories. Mr, Mrs and even baby West all wore Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy - a spokesperson from the house confirmed the news to WWD.

A paparrazzi shot of Kim's gown is being circulated on Twitter and it looks suitably glorious. See the Kate Middleton-esque lace sleeves, the sheer panels at the waist and a wonderfully ethereal veil. Bravo Kimmy!

The news doesn't come as much of a surprise as Tisci and Kim have a long history and she has worn designs by the Italian designer on countless occasions – who could forget the floral floorsweeper she donned for the 2013 Met Ball while pregnant with baby North? The pair are genuinely close friends and Tisci often features on Kim's instagram feed. The designer also art-directed that jam smeared photo shoot complete with pout for CR Fashion Book shot by Karl Lagerfeld.

Matriach Kris Jenner this morning uploaded a photo to Instagram of herself with the designer. "Good Morning @riccardotisci17 Love you!!!#herecomesthebride #Florence" she wrote, post wedding. As if he would have missed out on seeing Kim in that gorgeous design of his. Before Kimmy, Christina Ricci was the most noteable star to get married in one of his creations. His white lace couture gowns have also made their way onto the red carpet, as Rooney Mara wore a white lace floor-sweeper to the Met Ball in 2013.

In an interview earlier this year, Tisci went so far as to call Kim "the Marilyn Monroe of our age." He's also jumped to her defence numerous times, in particular after the backlash for Kim's floral Givenchy Met Ball dress last year.

He said: 'She is a really good friend, and I am very happy she came to the Met for the first time. I love Kim. Doing maternity was fantastic. I wanted to have a Kim Kardashian moment, because Kim always supports me. She is the future wife of a really good friend of mine.' He added: ''I wanted to have a moment of family… Kim, Kanye and the baby. It will be a family that I will be close to."

Speaking of Kanye, the hip hop mogul and the designer are indeed good friends, with Mr. West often rocking Tisci's creations, on stage and beyond. He also kitted out Kanye and bestie Jay-Z in custom outfits for the Watch The Throne Tour, causing Hov to name dropped the designer on track Picasso Baby when he said: "Riccardo Tisci Givenchy clothes / See me throning at the MET" in reference to the Givenchy suit he wore to last year's MET ball.

On Kim and that MET Gala dress, Tisci went on to say: "I have dressed many pregnant women in the past. People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers. I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career." Coming from Tisci, that's quite the accolade!
