We don't need to tell you that Rihanna is one of the greatest style icons of our generation (she has the CFDA Award to prove it and everything). In the September issue of W Magazine the good girl gone bad is introduced on the cover as "the world's wildest style icon," and features in not one, but two shoots. This is even a big deal to Rihanna, who (at the time of typing) has tweeted the news 10 times.

Inside the mag, Rihanna teams up with iconic supermodels Naomi Campbell and Iman for a story on Balmain's creative director Olivier Rousteing. The three black icons model his latest Balmain collection, wearing the bright rope dresses, animal print corsets and military green rope creations, toughened up with gold hoops and bold caged boots. The fiercest Balmain army yet? We think so.

The shoot, photographed by Emma Summerton and styled by W's Edward Enninful, accompanies a profile piece on Mr Rousteing which reveals that it is his mission "to give a new vision to fashion”. The designer said to W Magazine of the shoot: “These women are inspiring to so many different people. Bringing them together represents the concept I’m working toward.”

Rihanna also stars in the cover story, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and styled by Edward Enninful, in which Rihanna is introduced as the "world's wildest style icon." She wears looks by Alexander McQueen and Comme des Garcons, an animal skull pendant, thigh high boots and a septum nose piercing by Meadowlark.

On Twitter Rihanna captioned this shoot as her Eskimo Horror Cover Story, while Editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi said of the shoot: 'Rihanna came [to the shoot] with her own mental mood board, channeling the power of Grace Jones and the sophistication of Josephine Baker.'
