Ashish Gupta's Little Black Book

Little Georgia, London E2
A small, characterful café in Hackney that serves homely Georgian food. The borscht is rich and hearty, as are the blinis. Perfect comfort food for rainy London days. littlegeorgia.co.uk

Grannies Parlour Antiques, Hull
A quirky little shop just across from the station, full of 19th- and 20th-century objects, bric-à-brac and memorabilia. The last time I was there I found a pile of the most beautiful Victorian scrapbooks. 01482 228258

Fifteenth Century Bookshop, East Sussex
Housed in an old beamed building in Lewes, this lovely shop specialises in rare and collectible children's books. I recently bought a gorgeously illustrated copy of Der Struwwelpeter here. oldenyoungbooks.co.uk

Sivananda Yoga Centre, New Delhi
I spend three months a year in Delhi and this is an oasis of calm in the middle of the city. Classes are traditional, slow-paced and meditative. sivananda.org

Book Market, Old Delhi
Every Sunday morning the mile-long footpath between the Delite cinema and Daryaganj footbridge turns into a book 'bazaar'. The pavement is covered with coffee-table books, pulp fiction, vintage cookbooks and rare first editions.

Bio Mio, Copenhagen
My brother, who lives in Denmark, introduced me to this organic restaurant in the trendy meat-packing district. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the mussels and the rice pudding are just delicious. biomio.dk

Hotel Romàntic, Sitges
This family-run hotel in Spain is in a 19th-century villa. The rooms are basic but large, the common areas are full of artefacts and breakfast is served in a palm forest of a garden. hotelromantic.com
