A generous selection of what actress Joanna Lumley describes as her "greatest treasures" were auctioned off in aid of the Prince's Trust in London yesterday, raising £15,000 for the charity, which helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track.
The zebra-print coat by Joseph, which was worn by Lumley's Bolly-swigging character Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous and which the actress went on to purchase (as she told us back in April: "I'll hang on to that for a little longer because, you know, sentiment attachment"), fetched £850. The winner will receive a letter of authenticity signed by Lumley herself.

All the pieces from the 50-piece lot, composed of a mix of Lumley's personal items and ones collected through her acting career, including her entire Ab Fab wardrobe, sold. A pink Chanel wool skirt suit the 66-year-old wore to accompany two VC Gurkha veterans (Lumley was a key activist in campaigning for justice for the group) in 2010 went for a very reasonable £750, while a Gianfranco Ferré trench coat worn in the BBC TWO TV series Sensitive Skin fetched £260.

"I am so thrilled to think that the proceeds will all go to benefit young people through one of my all-time favourite charities -The Prince's Trust," said Lumley. "I love each item and each garment with a passion."

Earlier this year eco-minded Lumley teamed up with Marks & Spencer to launch its Shwop campaign, which encourages shoppers to swap any old or unwanted items when they shop in store which will then be recycled or resold by Oxfam, with the aim of reducing the 1 billion items being dumped into UK landfills each year.
