Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013 Hits and Misses: Part 2 (Forum Buzz)

Fashion Spot forum members made their picks for the first portion of Fashion Week in Milan this season, and now that the collections are drawing to a close, they’ve weighed in on the rest of what Milan had to offer. Here, their final selections for the collections that thrilled and disappointed for Fall 2013.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013 Hits - Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, Trussardi
The Hits: Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, Trussardi

Bottega Veneta

“Oh wow, what a surprise! This is gorgeous. I love the voluminous silhouettes, the artistic prints and the fabric manipulation used for some of the dresses. That, along with the hair and makeup and of course Raquel Zimmermann opening made me completely fall in love.” [dodencebt]

“This was the collection I was truly looking forward to in Milan, and what a beautiful collection it was. Some of the more intricate pieces may have been a little too much on the design side to appeal to everyone, but as a whole this was a triumphant offering. This woman is refined and alluring.” [VogueDisciple93]

“Extraordinary collection, I love its retro vibe.” [Morphe]

Jil Sander

“A marvelous collection from Jil Sander, I think she really succeeded in creating 'new' investment pieces that have always formed the core values of her brand, yet offering more than just your classical chesterfield coat or pantsuit. Her play with volumes, in particular the drop shoulders, swinging backs and articulated sleeves on most of her coats and jackets are just perfect, the lengths and proportions are exactly on point… These clothes are effortlessly sculptural, intricately thought-out yet easy to understand. If only more designers would do clothes like this...” [tricotineacetat]

“First impression: jaw-droppingly ambitious design, and successful on about every level imaginable. I’d wear everything (after a sex-change).” [BBBBB]

“WOW. Fantastic. Her best collection since returning (men's or women's). So many gorgeous pieces, so many gorgeous looks. I loved the proportion of those long coats ending mid-thigh, and the skirts ending mid-calf. The way that these clothes move is magical.” [dior_couture1245]

Trussardi

“Love it, all the leather really makes it rock 'n' roll. The oversized or ‘too big’ shoulders are great! All of the coats are gorgeous. Pleated skirts are wonderful as well. Very nicely done.” [gomtik]

“I love the styling from the messy hair down to those beautiful booties. This collection has a lot of personality; love the mix of chocolate leather, plaids, blacks and blues. I could have done without the animal prints, I felt they were disruptive and didn't add anything to the vibe. Overall, I really love this, many great pieces.” [HeatherAnne]

“Great collection, really wearable and I love the styling – it was great. The grid print is my favorite.” [gossiping]

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013 Misses - Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Marni
The Misses: Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Marni

Versace

“Most of the looks looked like they'd look best on the streets of Las Vegas. The weird use of yellow; the patent leather, zipper-infested coordinating halter-suits; the weird harness accessories; the forced S&M feeling; the pimp coats... thanks, though I'll definitely pass. I guess I just don't get it.” [Moofins]

“If hookers made better money they would be ALL OVER this collection.” [VogueDisciple93]

“Oh boy this is tragic. I've never been a fan of Donatella Versace's but the last two seasons have been below any low expectation. My main problem with this is not so much that it's tacky, as I usually find everything she does tacky as Hell, but it also looks cheap – like stripper clothing store cheap. And even there, the cheapest items in the store would resemble what I'm seeing here.” [Mistress_f]

Salvatore Ferragamo

“I like the design of most looks here, but almost everything, again, looked very heavy, stiff and uncomfortable. This time it was made even worse by most tops having turtlenecks. I can't imagine wearing any of this; it would make me feel like I'm suffocating.” [Psylocke]

“Very repetitive and monotone. I would still love to wear some pieces, but all in all it's forgettable.” [Laces]

“Nothing spectacular. It's just all so... meh.” [Elfinkova]

Marni

“Many of the Marni quirks are still there, but as a whole the collection lacks the usual charm and whimsy I've come to associate with the brand. I'm tired of seeing everyone's version of pared down minimalism.” [HeatherAnne]

“Some of the fur pieces are just silly. The long shaggy fur on the chest area reminds me of chest hair.” [Littleathquakes]

“Overkill with the fur, it doesn’t suit Marni. Marni is usually weird in a cute quirky way, but this is weird in a bad ugly way. The fur skirts and the fur boots were just hideous.” [disco54]
